Scotland by Motorcycle

Scotland is one of Europes top biking destinations. From the islands on the west coast to the North Coast 500, you'll find some of the best roads and most awesome scenery on offer. It's hard to imagine that Scotland has golden white beaches that rival those of the Caribbean, if you can look past the wind and the midges, but more on that later.

It's likely that if you are bringing your own bike to tour around Scotland, you will be entering via England. Riding up through Wales and the Lake District is a brilliant way to reach Scotland if you have time to spare. Once you arrive, head to Edinburgh and spend a few days seeing the sites and experiencing the city that hosts the worlds largest cultural festival. If you are staying in the city overnight, we can take care of your bike during your stay, just contact us here.

After leaving Edinburgh, take the A9 up to Inverness, on a motorcycle this should take you around three hours. Inverness is known as the gateway to the highlands. This will be your jumping on point for the NC500 which has a suggested 8 day motorcycle route that will take you around the beautiful coast line. Accommodation is plentiful wether you'd prefer wild camping, which is permitted in Scotland, or to stay in luxury highland lodges and hotels.

The NC500 doesn't officially take in the islands, though these are well worth visiting. Head to the Isle of Skye and enjoy the scenic ride all the way along the island to Uig where you can catch a ferry to Tarbert on the Isle of Harris. Harris is known for wildlife and beaches. If whisky is your thing, you can catch a ferry to Islay and Jura to visit the distilleries after a day of riding.

Sometimes the best rides are the ones where you don't know where your going to end up. If you do decide to visit Scotland on a motorbike and Edinburgh makes the agenda, get in touch and we will be happy to help.

Oh and midges, don't worry about them, you'll be fine.
